A few thoughts: Skee Mask has become one of my favourite electronic producers through his 2018 album Compro. With dark, atmospheric, and punchy grooves and beats, the producer has created some of the most interesting electronic compositions on that album that I’ve heard recently, and with each and every release I’m excited to hear what’s next. ISS010 is his new project, a 7-track album that fires on all cylinders with dynamic, dance-centric tracks on a techno album that is both immersive and hypnotic. With the heavy, almost industrial beat on “Dub Schneider”, he sets the tone on the rest of the album with heavy, acid-house inspired synths leads that add to the groove of the track as a whole. “Dachtekker” is incredible, with a driving, pummeling beat that is exceptional throughout. The rest of the album, with fast-paced groovy composition that just hits so hard throughout. “Double Standard” is mesmerising, hypnotic cut, with its swirling synths and percussion. The fast-paced “The Bills” is infectious and catchy too, while the atmospheric “Stomp” is another incredible moment on the album. “Small Stone S700” similarly has an eerie, darker and energy to it that is brought by incredible percussion and a dominant groove, and closes the album out poignantly.
