Why you should listen: Enigmatic emcee Fatboi Sharif has teamed up with frequent collaborator Roper Williams for a 10-minute single / EP titled Something About Shirley. It features Fatboi Sharif’s usually eclectic and dystopian world-building lyrics about monsters in the closet, poltergeists and other weird imagery that animate the already vivid and eclectic soundscape, created by Roper Williams. With harsh synths, more melodic and soulful moments as well, the production throughout is varied, sampling old films and featuring some dark and eerie moments that perfectly fit the aura and energy that Faboi Sharif carries in his art. It’s short, punchy, disorienting and experimental, with an ounce of what-the-fuckery that has made me fall in love with both artists.
