Why you should listen: Brooklyn-based artist Niontay has been making a name for himself in 2023, releasing his debut album Dontay’s Inferno, an album I’m yet to properly check out, as well as contributing to quite a lot of great art this year. Demon Muppy EP is his new 6-track EP, a short but punchy body of work showcasing his incredible presence on the mic and flow throughout. The production is incredible, with dense, electronic and trap-influenced beats that are textured and intricate. The fast-paced electronic grooves and glitchiness on “YATKAMAN3000” are infectious, while the bounce on “Ridewimmie (l95er)” along with Niontay’s flow and lyrics about love are fantastic. “Supa Bowl LVIII” featuring 454 is another highlight, with a colourful and dynamic instrumental and incredible flows from both features, who flow effortlessly over the incredible beat. “Real hiphop” featuring Earl Sweatshirt, El Cousteau and MIKE is another highlight, with a cool and dark beat and incredible flows that highlight the talents of artists who are making some of their best music ever. Niontay has crafted a sonically eclectic yet catchy and infectious new project with Demon Muppy EP, showcasing his talents effortlessly.
