Fly Anakin & Foisey have made a statement on Skinemaxxx (Side B). The now double album is going to be up there with some of their best

Richmond, Virginia rapper Fly Anakin is a bit of a legend in the underground hip-hop scene. I’ve reviewed so much of his music, where to start? Using the search bar on the website is my suggestion. He makes an excellent partnership with Connecticut producer Foisey, already releasing the fantastic Skinemaxxx (Side A). This time around, they have released the second installment to their Skinemaxxx series, a 9-track, 21 minute addition to Side A.

Side B is romantic, both in the soul production throughout, such as on the incredibly funky “Taxicab Confessions” to the soulful, R&B cut “Blaine Pitch”, and in the lyrics, such as on “Like Anita” or “Things Change” with the glorious Demae, whose vocals are a delicate and ethereal addition to the beautiful yet reflective and somber topic, makes this album a thoroughly enjoyable listening experience. “Animal Planet” is another one of my favourite tracks, with Foisey’s infectious loop rippling throughout, as Fly Anakin cuts right through with a menacing verse about working to provide for his girl, proclaiming that he’s “made it”, and you best believe he means that on that menacing beat. The whole track is crazy, and how that flows into the reflective “Intrepid” is incredible too. Shoutout to ANKHLEJOHN, the only rapping feature on “Blockstory”, a stellar verse. The whole sequencing of the album is excellent, and to have another smooth R&B track in “Lacey Duvalle” closing the album out before a proper skit outro, shows how dedicated he was to make the best bedroom setting album possible, and that’s a compliment! Each track flows effortlessly into the next, so a special shoutout to Foisey because his production is incredible throughout the entire project.

Fly Anakin & Foisey have made a statement on Skinemaxxx (Side B). The now, double album is going to be up there with some of the best in their respective catalogs. It’s a groovy, sensual yet thoughtful album that plays to many of the strengths of both Fly Anakin’s ‘rapping style, as well as Foisey’s eclectic production. It’s a fantastic body of work and one to check out and support!
