London-based Italian producer Chewbeats has teamed up with fellow producer and keyboard maestro Joel Dawe for a brand new project titled Circles. For those who don’t know, Chewbeats has been a part of the burgeoning beat scene in London, creating hard-hitting yet soulful beats with warm and inviting basslines, something he continuously improves with every release, it seems. To see his growth over the past few years has been inspiring, and this new project is a testament to his talents as a producer and artist.
The 5 tracks on this album are moody, with meandering basslines and keys, samples and melodies. At the heart of it though, are the beats that give his music a pulse that is so infectious. “Rain(y)” has these incredible basslines and angelic keys that build throughout, creating an atmospheric tone ad mood to it. The guitars on “Skywalking” are groovy, with synths that complement the funk throughout the track. “Bouncy Castles” featuring Shunaji’s smooth and energetic vocals and verse is a definite highlight, with swirling synths, a groovy bassline and an incredible beat that just sounds beautifully layered and textured. On “Clouded Telegraph Hill”, the basslines and thumping beat are complemented by emotive synths that give this track a colourful, summer-like feel to it. “Circles (see u later)” closes the EP off in style, with incredibly delicate keys and a sensual bassline that is just incredibly potent throughout, and Joel Dawe’s incredible keys on this one are just sublime.
Chewbeats and Joel Dawe have created something memorable with Circles. It’s a project that feels warm, inviting and incredibly textured and produced, with a sound that is smooth and soulful yet hard-hitting in equal measure. It’s a defining body of work for both artists, deserving of the love and support they get for their contributions to making great music. Listen to the project below and don’t forget to support!
