Come Thru is a London-based collective of passionate hip-hop lovers and musicians that run occasional events celebrating the community through cyphers of beatmakers and emcees that capture the talents of some of the city. Having been to a few of these events, it really is a celebration of the culture in the best possible way, and they have now released an excellent compilation titled Long Time, First Time.
With 11 tracks and 29 minutes of music, it features a plethora of artists, including producers Neo Sū, Angus Luke, Chewbeats, Chidi Digital, Creature, Angus Luke and Kamal Frederick, and emcees WilfMerson, Amos, Southsidefinn, NK INDUSTRY, HueyT KnewSumn, vivira, Liko Lavish, Andre Masters, le.tj and Obi Psalms. Despite it being a compilation of tracks showcasing the versatility of the collective as a whole, the cohesiveness of the project is what makes it so good. A lot of the lyrics throughout from the emcees are inspirational and speak to working towards your dreams, with intricate and colourful raps that bring the project to life. The production is soulful, hard-hitting, versatile and experimental throughout, so it’s so exciting seeing so many talented London-based producers keeping the scene alive. It’s so great to see a community like Come Thru thriving like this, and trust me this is only the start, there is a lot more to be excited about, both from the collective as a whole as well as each individual artist, so pay attention because Come Thru is here for a long time!
