LA-artist Sideshow has been making some of the most unique hip-hop music in recent years, helped by idiosyncratic and varied production that’s captivating, textured, and all-round exciting. His 2019 project Farley is exemplary of this, and with the release of his new project 2MM DON’T JUST STAND THERE!, he continues to set his own standards with his most concise and defined album to date.
14 tracks and 25 minutes in length, it features production from the likes of Alexander Spit, Popstar Benny, AYOCHILLMAN, Sideshow himself, and more, with the emcee rapping effortlessly about friends, family, drug use and experiences growing up that has shaped his adulthood. Highlights are plentiful, with tracks like “2UNCHI MUSIC” and “JIH LIKE MORANT” have these thumping, soulful beats that are just incredibly textured and layered, with Sideshow’s triumphant and inspiring raps taking center stage. “S.H.O.W. ENT”, “2MM” featuring Valee and “NOWHERE 2 HIDE” are other highlights on the album, with eclectic production as well as jazz and soul influences that create this moody, reflective, yet energetic tone that allow Sideshow to rap with his usually animated, distinct voice.
