Portland, Oregon based musician Jarrod Lawson comes through with a brand new album titled VISIONS under the Orpheus moniker. He’s able to bring smooth, atmospheric and layered electronic compositions to his music that sound soothing and wonderfully arranged.
The album opens up with the smooth, textured “Arrival.” With gorgeous keys, a groovy bassline and subtle electronic effects, this track perfectly sets the tone for the rest of the album. The thick basslines on “Phantasmagoria” are another highlight for me, as the gorgeous synth leads add an angelic and ethereal texture to the project. The beat on “Gamma Soirée” is fantastic too, as it brings a groovy and rhythmic change of pace to the album as a whole. The keys to “Ode to Toby” are beautiful as well, as the synths and percussion throughout adds this amazingly mystical texture to the record. The reflective tone of “Lull” with its slow-paced melody subtle beat and synth-heavy tone makes for a fantastic closer to the album. Overall, Jarrod Lawson comes through with a gorgeous body of work, and one which makes me anticipate any future releases he might have in the next few years.
