Mach-Hommy has had a busy 2019, with three excellent releases. There was his first collaboration with legendary producer DJ Muggs titled Tuez-Les Tous, as well as his phenomenal short 7-track album Wap Konn Jòj! which might go down as one of my favourites of this year. Then there’s the second collaboration with DJ Muggs as Kill Em All, simply titled Kill Em All.
This 10 track project features collaborations with Your Old Droog, Tha God Fahim and Sick Jacken, and has a different soundscape than his previous releases so far this year. It’s a slower-paced, jazzy and melodic album, as Mach-Hommy experiments more with providing sung melodies as well as Creole raps. It’s nothing we haven’t necessarily heard before from him, but considering the darker and more unassuming raps he’s released in the past, it’s a nice breath of fresh air. Tracks like “Lady Justice” features an old-school soul sample, while the slower-paced, jazzy “Anacaona” has Mach spitting in Creole. The hard-hitting, boom-bap “Force Majeure” is pretty memorable, as is Tha God Fahim’s contributions on this album, as he continues being one of the hardest working in the game. While I prefer the darker, more unassuming vibe from Tuez-Les Tous, Kill Em All (which by the way, is the literal English translation of the former album title), is still a welcome addition to his discography, and as usual, I still need to digest the dense lyricism. It will take time, but upon first listen, I’m certain that I’ll be enjoying this project for the foreseeable future.
