Music: Joy Postell – Back and Forth

Baltimore-based Joy Postell has been releasing some stellar music the last few years. Her stunning, soulful and utterly soothing 2018 project Diaspora was a highlight of that year, and she’s continued releasing some fantastic music. Back and Forth is a new EP that continues her streak of excellent music, and just seeing her grow as an artist is wonderful to see.

The synth-heavy production on “Influences” is met with a thumping beat and is also complemented by gorgeous guitar leads throughout. Talking about self-love and growth, as her stunning voice is perfect throughout this track and the project as a whole. “Possibilities” is another silky, smooth track with stunning keys and an infectious groove. The colourful guitar leads on “Back and Forth” is what makes it one of my favourites on the EP. The slower paced tone of “Make Believe” is stunning, as her passionate vocal delivery is what makes this track a standout one too. “Rain Down” is just wonderful, with its 808 beat and smooth synths throughout. “Say My Name” ends the album with an emotive, guitar driven track that feels very D’Angelo-eque. Overall, Joy Postell has released a stellar new EP that adds to her already vibrant discography.
