Music: o k h o – 100 Grey Hounds

Talented producer o k h o has come through with a brand new, riveting album titled 100 Grey Hounds. This is my first introduction to the musician, and I was immediately captivated by a lot of the electronic synths and compositions throughout.

The album is entirely without samples, and sees the artist experiment with electronic synths, heavy guitar leads (such as on the track “Hateful”), and beautiful, ethereal moments. “Ghost You” is an example of this, with stellar keys and synths that sound angelic and just beautiful. Basslines occupy the soundscape of this track, really bringing out a meditative energy. The trap influence on some of these tracks, especially on records like “Lifesick,” which give out a metallic, slightly eerie tone to the vibe of the song. “Blindead” sounds menacing, eerie in tone, while the closer “Dread & Grace” is an experimental, trap and R&B infused track with a lot of live elements and great energy throughout. The way it is able to switch tempo and tone at times throughout the track is what makes it a standout for me, as well as the overall rich and textured feel of the track as a whole. Overall, I’m incredibly pleased with this album, and am excited for any new music to come out.
