Once in a while you come across a new piece of music that just blows you away. Aldorande are a French jazz-funk fusion band, and their new self-titled album is absolutely incredible and my favourite pieces of music right now. 9 tracks and 50 minutes in length, Aldorande is a beautiful piece of work, with gorgeous keys and synth-heavy melodies that bring out such an emotive and soulful vibe overall, that you can’t help but be mesmerised by the whole album.
Tracks like “Beauty Island” are ethereal in their tone, with gorgeous keys and synths that are accompanied by groovy basslines and a beat that keeps the groove going. The angelic vocals bring such personality to the record, as saxophone leads add such a beautiful tone to the record. The album as a whole is incredibly layered, and on tracks such as “Praia Do Destino” and “Because Of You” are funkier cuts, with thick synth-heavy melodies that grow and develop as the track progresses, as well as thick basslines that give the album such a hypnotic groove. “Rayon Vert” and “Le Fin Est Un Commencement” are two stellar tracks that keep the same, hypnotic and mesmeric funk rhythms, with the latter being a beautiful closer to the record. It’s great to hear such layered, textured and beautiful music come out of France, a country that has given us so many classics and gems over the years. Aldorande is truly a contemporary classic and will be listened to for a very long time, trust me!
