Music: La Fine Equipe – 5Th Season

Composed of beatmakers Oogo, Chomsky, Mr, Gib and Blanka, La Fine Equipe are a French group that has shone a light on the French electronic scene since 2008. Funnily enough, my first introduction to their music is their new album 5Th Season, a joyful, upbeat project highlighting the diversity of electronic music not only around France, but globally as well.

This is shown through the various features throughout the album. They provide their unique sounds and personalities to the music. The bass-heavy energy of “Typical Boy” features Zefire, who brings energy through his soulful singing. “Nobu” features Grems and 20syl, who bring French raps over a high-energy electronic rhythms. Sara Lugo features on “Free Flow,” a synth-heavy track with a smooth melody as well as gorgeous vocals from the talented singer. Throughout the second half of the track there are features from T3 and Illa J on “The Source,” and Declaime and Georgia Anne Muldrow on “Fonk Jedi.” Both tracks feature heavy basslines and incredible funky melodies that we’ve come to love from the hip-hop legends. The diversity in sound throughout this project is what makes it such a wonderful, engaging and interesting album.
