Music: BEAK – Life Goes On EP

BEAK> are a Bristol-based band consisting of members Geoff Barrow (Portishead), Billy Fuller and Will Young. I’ve been paying attention to them for a while now but have never gone around to reviewing their music. Life Goes On is their new EP featuring 4 tracks of Krautrock-inspired ambient and electronic music that is both soothing and at times unsettling.

“Life Goes On” features fuzzy guitars and smooth vocals, as well as a dominant, heavy bassline that feels overpowering. “We Can Go” is a smoother, slower-paced guitar-driven track that slows the tempo down just a little bit. The project explodes back to life with a new-wave inspired “Minus Pillow” that just pummels throughout. “Allé Sauvage – Mario Batkovic Version” features what sounds like accordion melodies, giving out eerie, horror soundtrack vibes. It’s a great way to end this short but captivating project, and a great follow up to their 2018 album >>>.
