South London based producer Wu-Lu has been someone I have been following for a couple of years, and seeing his musical growth has been beautiful. His new EP, S.U.F.O.S (Save Us From Ourselves) sees him continue producing bold and eclectic music, with dark, gritty but gorgeous moments. Just looking at the musicians involved, such as Morgan Simpson (Drums), Kwake Bass (Drums), Nubya Garcia (Saxophone), Binisa Bonner (Vocals),
Demae Wodu aka Bubblerap (Vocals) and Eun (Vocals) among others, the musicianship and excellent collaborations make Wu-Lu’s music stand out to me.
“Back 2 4” for example, features brilliant syncopated drumming and a powerful bassline and guitar riffs that dominate the soundscape and give a platform for Binisa Bonner to sing beautifully throughout. His lead single “Seven” is of course a highlight, with swirling synths and rugged bass and guitar leads that really bring out a hypnotic energy to the music. There are softer moments such as on “S.U.F.O.S” Pt. 1 with smooth slow guitar leads and a Wu-Lu vocal performance that really stands out from anything on this project, in my opinion. Then, we get subtle drums and a sweet jazzy tone that gives me chills the more and more I listen to it. “Flare” features heavy guitar riffs and “Rolling Egg” is a smooth closer that brings out this cosmic energy.
Altogether, this new project is another stellar release and one I’ll be replaying for months to come. Listen to Wu-Lu’s new EP S.U.F.O.S below via Bandcamp, and make sure you support!
