Music: Jouis – Mind Bahn

Mind Bahn is the sophomore release from Brighton-based psychedelic folk rock band Jouis. They comprise of Joe Woodham (vocals, bass, guitars), Louis Pavlo (vocals, keyboard, synths and piano) and Adam Johnson (vocals, drums and percussion). This is my first introduction to their music, and I’m pleasantly surprised by the impressive and memorable melodies and grooves the band executes throughout this excellent album.

Tracks like “Sinking Statuses” have lavish, grand guitar leads that bring heaviness and fuzziness, really bringing out a psychedelic feel to the track. My personal favourite on the entire album is “Turtle,” which is a 7-minute beauty of a track, with keys and sweet guitar leads and synths that are accompanied by soulful singing and a tremendous amount of atmosphere that really capture a mood and a moment in time. It is followed by the sweet, piano driven composition “Cat.” Another favourite of mine is the track “Sinking Statues (Flying Mojito Bros Refrito)” which is a digital exclusive and features electronic beats and a groove perfect for the dancefloor.

Overall, this release is an excellent one and features some of the best, melodic guitar-based music I’ve heard this year. Definitely worth your time. Listen to Jouis’ Mind Bahn below via Bandcamp, and don’t forget to support! Released via None More Records.
