London-based musician Dominique Octave comes through with her brand new EP titled Adore You. It is actually her first studio project, though my first introduction to her music was through her 2017 single “You Make Me,” a track I discovered just a couple of months ago through Spotify.
On this new EP, she excels on every front. Sonically this project is gorgeous, with layered, synth-heavy production that is both sensual and moving. Lyrically she touches on a few topics, mainly her uncertainties and thoughts about self-love and growth. This can be heard on tracks like “The Process,” where she wants to “let it be, make peace with the process.” On “Adore You,” she pours her heart out, singing in a truly sensual manner. The way she highlights her imperfections and owns them is empowering, and the raw honesty she pours out on record is one of the reasons this is such a memorable debut project. “Lately” features some heavy drums and a more electronic sound that utilises vocal manipulation to experiment with sound and texture, something that was done well on this record.
With collaborations from Steve Octave, Aaron Forbes, Adrian McLeod, my guy Oddboy Ten, David Davis and Kayzee, the sound and aura of Adore You is what makes this an excellent introduction into Dominique Octave’s talents as a singer & songwriter. I hope you continue shining this year, you have already accomplished so much in the eyes of your family and friends.
