If you don’t know about KOKOROKO, get familiar. They released what was one of the best singles of last year in “Abusey Junction,” which was part of a Brownswood Recordings compilation that has garnered an astonishing and well-deserved 18.5 million views on YouTube and 3.5 million streams on Spotify. Their aura and infectious energy is what make this 8-piece band such an exciting new voice in the London jazz and afrobeat scene. They have just released a new single titled “Uman,” which is set to appear on their self-titled EP dropping on March 8th via Brownswood Recordings.
The tribal tones and grooves throughout this track are beautiful, with the frantic drumming in the background providing for a dynamic and dance-heavy tone that instantly brings you into their world of rhythmic and gorgeous jazz music. Led by Sheila Maurice-Grey, who both provides vocals and and plays trumpet, the group are able to really connect through such incredibly positive energy that it’s hard not to marvel and admire all their talents. Really excited for this new project!
