What a year it has been for music. It was the year I delved into the London hip-hop scene and continued to champion the incredible jazz that is coming out of this beautiful, vibrant and diverse city. I developed more of an interest in house, techno and R&B music as I covered a plethora of artists from within and outside of London and the UK.
It’s been a year of making friends within the scene, and I will continue to support you guys on a regular basis. There were really so many amazing records that came out this year, and I decided to do the following for this list. There are 100 songs selected from 100 different artists. There are a few international major label artists such as Pusha T (with “Infrared”) Anderson .Paak (with “6 Summers”) and Jay Rock (with “Wow Freestyle ft Kendrick Lamar), but the majority of music comes from London based artists who have really exceeded my expectations this year. Billy Dukes make the cut with “SIO” featuring the homie DIPS, Melo-Zed too on “We Ran Away,” Shumba Maasai with “AK Sutt’in” and Oddboy Ten with “IYA.” Jazz is heavily prominent on this selection, and includes the likes of Joe Armon-Jones with “Ragify,” Moses Boyd with “Drum Dance,” Emma-Jean Thackray with “Ley Lines” and Nubya Garcia with “When We Are,” just to name a few.
So without further ado, press play on In Search Of Media’s 2018 songs of the year below via Spotify below. To another fantastic year of music in 2019!
