Chicago-born Jeremiah Jae is back with an exciting new album titled DAFFI. His sound has always been dark in tone, and he carries it through on this new 16 track project, with sombre jazz-sampled production and an often psychedelic sound. Lyrically it is a dark record too, with Jeremiah releasing all the angst, frustrations and difficulties he has faced over the last couple of years.
He said: “I was in a not good period for some years. Although I still continued to create and release things here and there, It felt like this mass of stress and frustration was surrounding me, and weighing me down. I got to points where I wanted to just give up on everything, for different reasons.” Being anti-social, it was difficult for him to speak freely on issues that affected him on a deeper level. Jeremiah Jae’s music throughout the years has carried the same heavy tone, and the monotony in his voice may be a reflection of a darker side to him. Listening to tracks like “Payne” and “In The Cold” reflects that darkness effectively. KarenBe, The Koreatown Oddity, Oliver The 2nd, Robert Irving III and Busdriver all feature on this album, providing more depth and character to this project.
DAFFI is an exceptional album. Possibly Jeremiah Jae’s best to date. Dark, twisted, incredibly dense musically with incredible jazz and soul samples that pierce through the soul. A very contemplative release, one that let’s you feel Jeremiah Jae’s pain through his alter ego Daffi. Hope you’re in better spirits dude!
