Music: Khalab – Black Noise 2084

Following Khalab’s exciting first release on On The Corner Records earlier this year with Zaire EPthe talented musician is back with a full length project on the great label and has taken the London scene by storm with overwhelming support and radio play.

Black Noise 2084 is the name of the record, a cacophonous yet meticulously arranged album which is dense with tribal rhythms, deep basslines, swirling synths and heavy jazz compositions. Tracks such as “Dense” featuring Shabaka Hutchings & Tommaso Cappellato and “Bafia” featuring Tamar Collocutor bring out hypnotic rhythms which are soaked in saxophone leads, incredible percussion and deep-house grooves brought by the incredible bass throughout. Tribal screams and melodies are sung on tracks like “Zaire” and “Shouts” ft Prince Buju. “Cannavaro” features Clap! Clap! and provides us with a hectic, hypnotic groove that is incredibly unsettling yet builds up towards the end with such beautiful synth leads and percussion. “Dawn” featuring Moses Boyd closes the album incredibly with incredibly poignant synth leads, vibrant drumming that provide such vibrant energy that makes you want to dance away into the night.

Khalab’s Black Noise 2084 is an incredible album that dives into tribal grooves and screams with a deep house backdrop that is complemented by swirling synths, heavy percussion and drumming that can put you in a complete trance. One of the most memorable releases for far this year, for sure.
