Safe Jazz is a group formed by talented producer and bassist Jesse Schuster, who has released an exciting and vibrant electronic/jazz album titled Joy, etc. Inspired by the sound of the LA beat scene, Jesse is able to craft a sound that experiments with electronic compositions, as well as live instrumentation that gives the music a raw and warm feel.
Over 17 tracks, members Arlen Peiffer, Eric Mayson and Jesse Schuster go on a cosmic journey filled with incredible percussive jams, piano melodies and heavy drumming that is accompanied by synth-led beats that are intertwined with the live instrumentation, which ends up turning into a beautiful marriage between the electronic and the acoustic. Highlights include “Beneath the Lilac Window” with its smooth keys and loops, “Silly//Hyperbolic” with it’s grand synth horn section that make the track grandiose and triumphant. “Ramen” features a cacophony of sounds that are assembled masterfully to feature synth leads, a thumping bassline and percussive elements that add personality to this lively track. The tracks on here barely pass the 3 minute mark, so they don’t over-stay their welcome. The album is focused and poignant. An excellent release from the guys at Safe Jazz. Shoutout to Jesse Schuster who put this project together.
