Music: Asal Hazel – like water – tape

Asal Hazel’s sound, while easily characterised as a genre of music, is also incredibly unique. The Persian-American neo-soul singer has been closely affiliated with the Stones Throw/Akashik Records family, and her new release Like water- tape is her debut release.

Influenced and inspired by the depths of the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles (where she grew up and currently resides), this new project represents a gorgeous, animated journey down her soulful and spiritual mind.  Her ethereal voice is complemented by gorgeous, lush and detailed production, and the soulful energy throughout her music is unlike anything I’ve heard this year.

Sampling the likes of Hiatus Kaiyote (“The Lung”) and Childish Gambino (“Urn”) on “Smooth Sinner/4ever,” the tape also includes production from the likes of Mndsgn, Swarvy (on “UTMT”), Knxwledge, Swarvy and Tony Mendez. They bring the soothing and soulful backdrop for Asal’s hauntingly beautiful voice and poetry.

Listen to Asal Hazel’s brilliant new project Like water- tape below via Bandcamp, and make sure to support in any way you can!

Hey everyone, thanks for stopping by. I run In Search Of Media with the aim of giving a platform to independent beatmakers, rappers and talented musicians. I also hope to make this a home for music discovery, interesting film analysis, exhibition reviews and other interesting content for all of you guys to dive in to. I hope to start a podcast and documentary-style project soon. If you're looking to be a part of this creative project, please go to the contact page and drop me an email, or connect via Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. I also write for 'Music Is My Sanctuary.' Thanks 🙏
