Music: Onra – Nobody Has To Know

I’m going to say this straight up – Onra is a genius. A musical chameleon with his influences and sound, the French producer always finds a way to innovate in the most interesting and eclectic ways. Through his Chinoiseries trilogy of albums, he sampled Chinese, Vietnamese and Thai records after spending time in South-East Asia. The results were spectacular, and I recommend anyone who enjoys funky, R&B heavy tracks with Asian influence to go and listen to Chinoiseries right now.

On his new album Nobody Has To Know, his fifth album on All City Records, the talented French producer dives into heavy funk and synth-driven grooves, creating a catchy, dance-heavy vibe which is pure ear-candy. Featuring New Zealand’ Lewis McCallum and Belgium’s Pomrad, the two talented artists bring a touch of class and magic to the already vibrant sound Onra has expertly crafted in this project. I can’t even pick a standout track because every song on here just moves you in such a profound way (though I have “Let Me Fantasize” on repeat) – the spaced out, funk-heavy melodies often put you in a trance and in a state of pure nostalgic euphoria. A brilliant addition to Onra’s already rich discography.
