René Schier is an incredibly gifted producer out of Berlin signed to the great Belgian independent label Urban Waves Records. I discovered René Schier quite recently, which makes me feel like I’ve been sleeping on the guy, because he has released a couple of fantastic beat tapes in the past, such as Zazen, released earlier this year.
With Seeds, René’s most recent release, he has sharpened his craft as a beatmaker and created one of my favourite albums of the year. As Urban Waves themselves describe it, “The album takes you on a date at night depicting a sensual portrait of pleasure, intimacy and passion. While it’s getting cold and dark outside, get cozy, pour yourself something warm to drink and enjoy this album.”
It definitely does, and there is something incredibly eerie and mysterious about the tone on the album. The keys on ‘When Love Is Found ‘ sound similar to what I would hear in the Twin Peaks soundtrack. The title track sounds like something I would listen to walking home in the darkness through the empty streets back home in Switzerland. It’s the vibe of the album that for me creates such nostalgia for home, and I’m not entirely sure why, but the tone of the album is so raw that I see myself returning to this album for some time.
A big thank you to René Schier for the inspiring music, and a big shoutout to Urban Waves Records for supporting this kind work of art.
Listen to Seeds below via Bandcamp, and make sure you support this project and buy it if you dig it.
