‘Year of the Funky’ is the second studio album from the wonderful due of Bei Bei (荷蓓蓓) and Shawn Lee. Following their successful debut collaborative project ‘Into The Wind’ released in 2010 on Ubiquity Records, this remarkable due are back again with their usual string-heavy and groovy compositions. The energy the talented and fascinating Bei Bei brings on strings is infectious, whilst the percussive instrumentation and captivating production from Shawn Lee throughout the album makes this such an immersive, unnerving and exciting listen altogether.
It marries eastern and western sounds to beautifully and harmoniously, and this experience of it (especially on first listen) is definitely one to remember.
