a few thoughts: two of the most innovative artists within the electronic music space have come together on a collaborative piece called seismo. upsammy’s glitchy and disorienting electronic compositions are complemented by intense percussion work from valentina magaletti. the beats and grooves throughout, especially on tracks like “superimposed” and “hyperlocalise”, are frantic and utterly mesmerising from start to finish. i’m such a fan of the textures and synth compositions throughout the album. the light and beautiful energy of “thickness of signs” is pretty moving to me, while the free jazz energy of “every cell thought every thinkable thing” is a striking piece that is both eerie and utterly hypnotic. the moody and melodic “mementoes” is sweet, while the relentless drumming on “collide” brings an unshakable intensity, with intricate beat arrangements that are just incredible throughout. the euphoric yet restless tone of the closer “some unimaginable world” makes for a perfectly way to conclude this dense and textured body of work. upsammy and valentina magaletti have released a gem with seismo, and can’t wait to experience this live soon.
