a few thoughts: i’ve been a fan of new york producer and dj anthony naples for a few years now. his 2025 album scanners further explored his melodic and punchy house and techno rhythms, with some catchy and groovy moments geared for those dancefloors. in studio magic is an album that focuses more on synth-lead melodies, with less of an emphasis on drumming and high-bpm tracks. tracks like “harmonie” and “dustos” are stunning moments, with beautiful and immersive compositions that feel euphoric throughout. “opal”, similarly, has a transcendental melody, with an ethereal ambience. the striking “fragment memory” is a highlight, with its intertwining melodies floating amongst each other. the album is not without its drums though. the slow-paced beat of “whisper” is a light and euphoric moment on the album, “on your own again” is probably my favourite on the album, with it’s spacious, atmospheric sound and groovy and infectious bassline. the acoustic guitar melodies on “may” are beautiful, while the slow-paced, emotive textures of “yours truly” are beautiful too, with sparse percussive moments that are just incredible throughout. “perix” closes the album out with a haunting yet stunning melody, with a subtle beat and tone to it that makes for a reflective final moment. the ambiance and gentleness of in studio magic is what makes it such a memorable listen, with its rich, synth-led textures and subtle beats throughout. a stellar new addition to his fantastic discography.
