a few thoughts: over the years, london-based producer neo sū has explored a plethora of different soundscapes, predominantly as a beatmaker, creating eclectic instrumentals for some of the most talented artists this city homes. co-leading come thru, a sick event series that brings together local producers, emcees and singers to collaborate in a live setting, he has built a strong network of friends, collaborators and fans into his space, and is in constant sonic evolution. the sonic meanderings of neo sū’s new album until the flies get you speak to his delicate and gentle nature, whilst giving us an insight into his state of mind, explored beautifully through immersive ambient musings. the 15-track album is a meditation on neo sū’s state of mind during an intense but necessary period of healing from a relationship. music has always been his escape from issues back home, so rechanneling that feeling on this album makes it an intimate portrait of this melancholic and reflective time in his life. the album itself follows an arc and sonic narrative that meanders between feelings of sadness and feelings of optimism about life and the future. there is an emotive heaviness to the album, as he explores his pain and personal growth beautifully, channeling that energy with lush and swelling synth leads and glitchy electronica that embody neo sū’s emotional state poignantly. the sentiment of until the flies get you is the conclusion of this arc. he’s made it through a challenging relationship, his love and passion for music still very much alive and well, and with an optimism about what’s to come. until the flies get you is neo sū’s most complete album to date, a portrait of his ever-evolving and developing artistry, painting an intimate and relatable sonic picture of his life during a breakup.
