a few thoughts: haana lee describes textures as their first full length album, though they have released some beautiful and lush music over the years in the form of long, continuous ambient soundscapes. textures is a beautiful body of work that combines gorgeous synth melodies with more jittery moments that complement each other perfectly as the music meanders and takes on new life. the opener “mantilija” sets the tone for the rest of the album, with its meditative synth lead that feels so empowering and beautiful. “twrl” is a rhythmic and dynamic track, with looped synth melodies that have this upbeat groove to it that i find pretty infectious. “windstrm” is just a gorgeous piece of music that is just incredible from start to finish, while the 9-minute ambient piece “floating leaf dnz” is just so beautiful, with transcendent energy that transports me to this deeply meditative space, and makes way for “fragile” to close the album out beautifully. overall, textures is a stunning and lush piece of music that captures haana lee’s energy and artistry so poignantly on an album that is a transcendent meditation on life.
