a few thoughts: osunlade is back with his first full-length album since last year’s inner garden. the 8-track album is another meditative and colourful body of work that showcases the talents of the legendary producer. “plantation earth” has a dynamic beat that is complemented by gorgeous guitar melodies and grooves that are engaging and stunning throughout. “wut iz style?” is a 9-minute deep house banger, with a rumbling beat, vocal chops and hypnotic synths that make this a textured and menacing track. the rumbling basslines of “don’t ever look back” are fantastic and the bounce of the track is just infectious. the jittery synth notes of “pulse” make for a restless and unnerving listen, while the colourful “cascarilla” is a soulful cut, with animated synth melodies, vocal chops and effects that make this a fun and dynamic cut. the vocal sample on “i found” is fantastic, while the incredible key melodies on “bag of filters” are gorgeous, with an intimate jazzy composition that is smooth yet dynamic, making this a subdued yet incredibly moving cut on the album. the percussion and guitar leads on “serenade” close the album poignantly, with a hypnotic, slow-paced groove that is just perfect. invite only is an excellent new album from one of the best to ever do it.
