a few thoughts: as whatever the weather, loraine james channels a more subdued and ambient side to her music and art. her debut album under this alias was exceptional, with electronic and synth-led sonic musings that feel intimate and just stunning throughout. whatever the weather ii is a fitting continuation of that sonic narrative, with gorgeous synth-led compositions that are mellow, reflective and beautiful throughout. from the gorgeous, chilly opener “1°c” to the glitchy melodies on “20°c” or “11°c (intermittent rain)”, the album meanders between swelling synths and glitchy effects that capture the playful nature of loraine james’ music, while also sounding so ahead of its time. the cohesion and flow of the album, from start to finish is just incredible, and she’s really able to capture a soulful and emotive energy that is just soo beautiful from start to finish.
