a few thoughts: multi-instrumentalist ben vince has released a mesmerising, hypnotic album titled street druid, combining ambient and atmospheric textures with immersive and expressive saxophone melodies on a project that is utterly hypnotic from start to finish. the moody and utterly beautiful opener “prelude” sets the tone for the rest of the album, with an incredibly lush composition, with warm yet dynamic saxophone leads and an echoey tone that feels delicate from start to finish. the immersive and emotive “peace spell” is one of my highlights, with its subtle electronic synths and a transcendent saxophone melody that is just stunning. there is a haunting tone to the tracks on this album. the riveting, relentless energy on tracks like “deepbluereflection” and “sentient kinetics” are driven by the heavy percussion and drumming throughout. the metallic percussion on “street druid” is stellar, while the techno-esque energy of “(ride a) wave” is a frantic and disorienting moment on the album. the lush and beautiful “longville” closes the album out with a gorgeous melody and vocals that are gorgeous and reflective from start to finish. street druid is an emotive, restless and sonically textured body of work, with gentle and immersive moments that make this a dense and memorable listen.
