a few thoughts: kmru has been a staple in the electronic, noise and ambient music scene for a few years now. led by rich textures, atmospheric and immersive soundscapes, the artist has been able to capture an intimate, emotive and stunning energy throughout his expansive discography, and kin is no different. 6 tracks of dense, beautifully arranged ambient pieces. “with trees where we can see” features distorted synths over a gentle and powerful melody that is just beautiful from start to finish. the distorted guitars on “blurred” featuring fennesz blend perfectly with the gorgeous ambient textures of this 12-minute piece, while the quiet eerie tone of “they are here” is haunting yet stunning. i feel utterly transported listening to this album. the longer tracks feel almost fleeting, as if time stands completely still. “maybe” is another lush and powerful piece, which contrasts with the almost abrasive and distorted tones of “we are”. the album closes with a 20-minute piece called “by absence”, a gorgeous, lush and beautiful piece, with an earthly energy and tone, combining swelling electronic synths with birds chirping and a subtle bassline that is utterly mesmerising throughout. kin really is a stunning body of work, capturing an immersive, beautiful energy that is incredibly textured and varied throughout.
