a few thoughts: london-based, accra-born artist black fondu has been experimenting with glitchy, warped out electronic music for a few years now, but blackfonduism is first proper project after some stellar singles released in 2024. it’s a short, 7-track album, but with some incredibly varied and dense compositions. the gwen stefani remix/rework of “holla back girl” is incredible, with thumping drums, eclectic synth leads and effects that complement his emphatic vocals. it’s an incredible, glitchy, electronic masterpiece. the disorienting “boys” is fantastic too, with distorted electronica and a catchy, poignant melody throughout. “im not sleeping” is an explosive and emotional track about insomnia, while “in d4 club” evokes a feeling of urgency, with cascading electronic compositions that feel overwhelming. the subdued “c00n v2”, with its subtle synth melody is complemented by a restless beat, while the intense and cacophonous “black1e” has a punk-esque energy, both in terms of black fondu’s intense vocals, and the overwhelming energy of the beat. “#music” closes the album out with an urgent, overwhelming composition that pummels its way through warped out, frantic beat. the energy of blackfonduism is relentless. disorienting, cacophonous electronica with catchy compositions that capture the talents of an artist experimenting and exploring without limits.
