a few thoughts: talented multi-instrumentalist and supremely talented musician dj harrison, someone i’ve been supporting and covering on the blog since 2017 or so, has released a soulful and dense new album titled electrosoul. over 18 tracks and 40 minutes, he crafts soothing and funky soundscapes, with punchy compositions and melodies aided by a handful of features that animate his compositions beautifully. “can’t go back” featuring nigel hall has these beautiful piano leads, emphatic drumming throughout and a vocal performance that is just lush and soulful throughout. the basslines on tracks like “it’s all love” featuring yazmin lacey, “sepia visions” and “end of time” featuring grebes are so damn groovy, while the psyched out and funky “og players” and “neverfold” are punchy and emphatic moments that capture the infectious energy of his music. kiefer’s piano contributions on “beginning again” make for a stunning and immersive listen, while pink siifu and fly anakin provide incredible raps on “y’all good” and “seek god” respectively. yaya bey’s vocal feature on “stay ready” is also fantastic, and complements the incredible groove of the track, led by piano melodies and a funky bassline that just hits so hard. electrosoul is exemplary of dj harrison’s talents as a producer, with incredibly funky and soulful moments that had me bobbing my head uncontrollably throughout.
