a few thoughts: brooklyn, new york electronic trio purelink have released some of the most fascinating, reflective, emotive and gorgeous electronic music in the last few years. with moody ambient compositions that also take influences from drum and bass, techno and dub music, infusing these sounds into ambient pieces that are expansive, melancholic and just so beautiful to listen to. from the stunning opener of “look me right in the eye”, a gorgeous ambient piece that feels emotionally potent and empowering, to the more dynamic, drum-heavy “circle of dust”, the project features some immersive and stunning moments. loraine james’ vocal feature on “rookie” is beautiful, with a slow-paced groove that features gorgeous synth leads and a beat that is hypnotic, while the drum patterns and groove on “yoke” make it a standout on the album for me. the dreamy “kite scene” with its is also stunning, while “first iota” featuring angelina nonaj has this empowering, rumbling synth lead that is utterly hypnotic from start to finish. the whole album has this melancholic, reflective energy that is just utterly incredible from start to finish. a sublime piece of music that will stand the test of time.
