a few thoughts: london-based artist, radio host and all around talented creative elheist has released a new 3-track ep titled koyọ. she’s been making a name for herself for a few years now, releasing projects like 2020’s wholesome goody, as well as her quest no more nts show. self-produced and self-written, koyọ is a bold artistic statement, with punchy, eclectic tracks that take inspiration from electronic dance music and hip-hop. the dynamic groove of “demguys” showcases her eclectic and energetic nature, with quirky electronic synths and basslines complementing the fast-paced groove and beat of the track, while elheist’s braggadocio and confident lyricism complements the punchy and colourful production. “recipe” has this infectious, fast-paced, dance-centric beat, with elheist’s emotive vocals making this a highlight for me, while the frantic, catchy energy of “say swear” closes the ep out with personality. koyọ is an excellent short ep capturing elheist’s personality through music. it’s a vibrant and eclectic listen, one that has me excited for what else she has coming next.
