a few thoughts: rosie lowe’s voice is an enchanting gift to the world. the talented artist has been making some of the most unique electronic music in recent years, combining her stunning voice with dynamic, groovy and stripped back production, such as on her collaboration with duval timothy son is back with her third studio album titled lover, other, showcasing her talents as both a composer, producer and singer. lover, other is her new album, a stunning 15-track album that feels incredibly intimate and utterly beautiful from start to finish. the choral opener of “sundown” sets the tone for the album with gorgeous vocals that lead into the groovy “mood to make love”, an intimate and groovy track, with a subtle bassline and keys that feel dreamy and meander in between rosie’s emotive vocal performance. the dynamic drumming on “in my head” are emphatic, complemented by a catchy melody and smooth vocals too. the playful and jumpy electronic composition on “bezerk” is great too, as she sings “i have a peaceful life, but i’m living on the run.” the keys, drumming and vocal performance on “there goes the light” makes it a beautiful, reflective and soulful cut, while the colourful melodies on tracks “walk in the park” and “gratitudes” make them standouts on the album. “something” builds from electronic synths to dynamic and frantic drumming, quirky electronic synths and beautiful vocals. the stripped back vocal-led compositions of “in the morning” and “out of you” are stunning, while the grooves of “lay me” are fantastic too. speaking on topics of love, growth and feeling a sense of escape from reality, the lyrics feel grounding and relatable, and combined with the eclectic compositions throughout the album, rosie lowe really has created a memorable body of work that is already among one of my favourite projects to date this year. the gorgeous soulful melodies of “this before” are emotive and sensual, while “lay me”, “lover, other” and “sundown (reprise)” close the album with vocal-led melodies, synths and strings that feel grandiose and stunning throughout. the eclectic electronic production complements rosie’s emotive and powerful vocal performances throughout, showcasing her ability to create these immersive, unforgettable listening experiences that sit with me for quite a while. every rosie lowe album feels special, and lover, other may be her most poignant and stunning piece of work to date.
