a few thoughts: australian techno / dub producer command d has released a stellar new ep titled new devices. my first introduction to the talented artist, i’m blown away by these 4 tracks of dark, unassuming and dub-inspired electronic music. from the punchy and menacing “swallow”, with its dub grooves and rumbling bassline throughout, to the atmospheric “heavy clouds”, command d has created an immersive, stunning soundscape that combines a slow, atmospheric ambiance with gritty, dark and intense compositions. the rumblings of “madman” are stellar, while the swirling, dynamic and groove-heavy “cg phrase” make for a captivating, transfixing listening experience, and one that showcases his talents as a composer perfectly. new devices ep is a great introduction to an up and coming dub and techno producer you need to familiarise yourself with. it’s dark, unassuming, textured and punchy.
