Why you should listen: Enigmatic and experimental hip-hop artist Fatboi Sharif has teamed up with the legend Bigg Jus for a new 4-track EP titled Insomniac Missile Launcher. The production, handled by Bigg Jus as Justoleum Kingspitter, is heavy, abrasive and disorienting, enabling both Fatboi Sharif and Bigg Jus to spit their incredibly visual, harsh and unique verses and lyrics. The EP kicks off with the self-titled track, with wildly disorienting synths and drums throughout that add to Fatboi Sharif and Bigg Jus’ dystopian world-building lyrics. “Grimy Squadron Grow A Garden” is another heavy track, while “Ghost Story” is the standout to me for its atmospheric beat, and Bigg Jus’ hypnotic verse. “God” ends the EP triumphantly, with more incredibly written dystopian and creative verses from Sharif and Jus. As a duo, this makes so much sense, with both emcees flowing off each other’s energy effortlessly, and production that complements the dark and twisted narratives they’ve built on this album. Insomniac Missile Launcher is a hellish, dystopian and immersive new EP from two of the most enigmatic and interesting artists making music today.
