Why you should listen: This is my first introduction to Ana Frango Elétrico, and boy oh boy am I loving their music! The Rio de Janeiro artist, along with their incredible group, have released an infectious, feel-good album with Me Chama De Gato Que Eu Sou Sua. Having released two critically acclaimed albums already, something I’ll need to check out, this, checking reactions online, may be their boldest and most confident album to date. The production is rich and textured, with intricate drumming, catchy and groovy guitar playing, infectious rhythms and emphatic wood instrumentation that captures so much of the vibrant atmosphere of this album as a whole. Between the dynamic opener “Electric Fish” and the dance, almost disco-ey closer “Dr. Sabe Tudo”, are moments of real magic. The soothing and smooth “Dela” is phenomenal, with its funky groove and melody, the claps, the seductive vocals and the colourful soundscapes make it an early highlight on the album. The sensual “Nuvem Vermelha” is an absolute stunner, while the groovy short “coisa Maluca” is sweet, with Ana’s gorgeous vocals creating a real feel-good vibe. “Boy of Stranger Things” is a playful, pop-soul track, with catchy melody and a real Motown-like tone throughout. “Camelo Azul” is a soft and sweet cut too, while “Inista em Mim” is a melodic, grandiose and fancy-sounding track, rich in its textures, both instrumentally and vocally. The synth-led “Let’s Go To Before Again” is sweet, with all the rich percussion that adds to the soul and beauty to the track, while the upbeat “Debaixo do Pano” is another fantastic moment on the album. On Me Chama De Gato Que Eu Sou Sua, Ana Frango Elétrico have created a rich, layered and textured album, one I could universally recommend to anyone and everyone.
