Why you should listen: Spiritual, tribal jazz for your ears, Alabaster dePlume’s Come With Fierce Grace is a stunning album that meanders between stunning wind instrumentation, poignant drumming and groovy basslines. Along with a whole team of talented musicians (the list is too long to name but do check the Bandcamp description below for the names of everyone involved), the talented composer is able to create a body of work that sounds utterly hypnotic. The subtle vocals throughout the album are beautiful, with tracks like “Not Even Sobbing” and “Naked Like Water” featuring Donna Thompson giving out this utterly spiritual and meditative energy that captures the heart and soul of Alabaster dePlume’s music. The album feels so tribal and so rooted in human and earthly connection that it’s impossible for me not to be enamored by it all. It makes me feel warm, at least sonically, with the closer “Broken Again” being the perfect way to conclude a special album.
