Liv.e’s musical growth as an artist has been inspiring to watch over the years. Girl In The Half Pearl, released earlier this year will likely go down as one of my favourite albums of the year. It’s a striking and experimental neo-soul album, with clear electronic and dance influences that are sprinkled throughout a smooth and soulful body of work. Now, she’s come through with a remix album titled GITHPREMIXEDITION, all done by fellow Dallas, Texas friend and artistic collaborator Ben Hixon. I’ve been a fan of his work for a while now, and find it so great that he’s had the freedom to remix the entire album, from front to back, and do it in a way that sounds like a proper re-defined and new Liv.e album.

From the 7-minute opener “Gardetto.” to the “Glass Shadows” closer, the album is full of dynamic and dance-heavy tracks, infectious with its drums and grooves. Quite a few of the tracks veer away from the sound of the original compositions, which is obviously great and gives her music new life. Quite a few of the tracks are perfect for the club, such as “A Slumber Party‽”, with its incredible fast-paced drumming and synths that add an entrancing quality to the music. “Six Weeks” is another great cut off the album, with its dynamic groove, Liv.e’s gorgeous vocals and synths that add an ethereal quality to her music. “Find Out” is crazy too, while tracks like “Ghost” and “Clowns” have more of a resemblance to the original compositions, with their recognizable synth-led melodies still being at the forefront of the tracks, but with a punchiness to the beats that make them both absolutely infectious. The broken beat of “RESET!” is another incredible moment, while the thump and energy of “Underground” is another highlight for me.

As a dance-led alternative to Liv.e’s album, GITHPREMIXEDITION ticks all the boxes for me. Ben Hixon’s work shouldn’t go unnoticed, he’s really been at the forefront of some of the most exciting House and Techno music coming out from the States, and this project further cements that legacy.
