Tonal Unity is a South Korean label specialising in left-field electronic recordings. Vol. 1 {일} is a compilation album that focuses on bringing the diverse, raw and ancient sounds of Korea in a blend of modern, electronic interpretations by some of the most intriguing musicians working today.
The compilation features the likes of El Búho ( founder of the Shika Shika collective), Unjin (a leader in the South Korean techno scene), Prabumi (a rising star of the Indonesian dance scene), Kurup (a Brasilia-based artists who’s a leader in downbeat music), Ground ( a leader of the Osaka electronic scene) and 6=2+4 (a duo comprising Seoul producers Mang Esilo & R2MP). Featuring electronic rhythms, chimes and more techno-centric production on a lot of the records, what makes this a mesmeric release is the real South Korean aura presented through the music. This comes in the form of angelic vocal samples, cosmic synths and traditional sounds that meander between the hard-hitting and inspiring electronic production. It’s a brilliant display of incredible talent and shows the diversity and beauty of South Korean music. A big shoutout to all artists involved with this release.
