Music: Tommaso Cappellato – Butterflying

Talented Italian musician Tommaso Cappellato comes through with a brand new project titled Butterflying. After having discovered him very recently through a live performance at the Jazz Cafe London alongside headliners Butcher Brown, I was eager to delve into his world of music. And it doesn’t disappoint one bit.

The synth-heavy notes on the opening track “Splinters Of A Rainbow Heart” are moody and poignant, with features from Matteo Alfonso on piano and Andrea Lombardini on bass, providing a spacey feeling to the track. This continues throughout the album, with tracks like “Humming” and “Abstract Travels” being slow-paced and more ethereal moments on the album. The latter features darker, heavier percussion, swooning synths and and off-beat rhythm that keeps you on the edge of your seat. There is a lot more drumming throughout the project, such as on “Canvas In The Dark,” with futuristic electronic effects and synths that swirl and meander in between the hard-hitting drumming that adds character and energy to the whole vibe of the record. “No Flies For A Closed Mouth” features heavy funk, with piano and flute throughout the track. Alberto Lincetto kills it on keys throughout the track “Catch Me If You Can.” Overall, Tommaso brings a whole lot of infectious energy on this impressive project.
