Music: Kaidi Tatham – It’s A World Before You

Kaidi Tatham’s music has reverberated through dancefloors worldwide for years now. He is a legendary UK producer who is best known for his work Bugz In The Attic, but has also  worked with the likes of Amy Winehouse, Slum Village, Mulatu Astatke, Soul II Soul, Moonchild, Leroy Burgess, Amp Fiddler, Chris Dave and Macy Gray amongst others. After releasing two EP’s last year with First Word Records, Changing Times and Hard Timeshe is back with a full length project with the label titled It’s A World Before You.

The album effortlessly encapsulates Kaidi Tatham’s diversity in sound and influences, with funk-heavy broken beats that are perfectly sequenced to provide fluidity in vibes and grooves throughout. From the swirling synths on “Cold” to the gorgeous keys and heavy drums on “It’s About Who You Know,” the album celebrates a jazz-like improvisation to dance music that he has pioneered over the years and has made way for a new generation of young artists to continue expanding and experimenting with. The title track featuring Dego is another highlight, with mesmeric synth leads and a subtle string section that adds an ethereal and grandiose tone to the track. Let’s not forget Children of Zeus, the Manchester-based duo who brought the soul on Out Here On My Own. They are releasing their anticipated debut album on First Word Records later this month, don’t miss that one!

Kaidi Tatham’s It’s A World Before You is a masterclass in broken-beat funk and soul. He continues to release anthems that are going to no doubt wear out sound-systems all around the UK. You can Listen to his album below via Bandcamp, and don’t forget to support in any way you can! Released on First Word Records.
