This is a legendary collaboration. Fly Anakin, who is one of the illest emcees doing it right now has teamed up with one of the most talented producers in the game, Ohbliv, for a 16-track LP titled Backyard Boogie. Fly Anakin’s tone and flow as a rapper is what makes him such an exciting talent. As a lyricist, he is sharp, and brings menacing bars which talk about personal experiences, using clever wordplay and metaphors to portray a vivid picture of life and the abstract.
Ohbliv’s production is stellar on this project as usual. It’s is jazzy in spirit, funky in grooves and raw in execution. Tracks like “Faceplant in San Bernadino!” and “Weedman” bring pure funk to the track, with dense basslines, jazzy undertones and silky synths that give a soulful vibe to it. Ohbliv’s sampling is also incredible throughout, but the highlight of this project is “Stocking Cap,” which features Thrvd, ANKHLEJOHN, Big Kahuna OG and Al.Divino in a 7 minute posse-cut which is dense lyrically and features stellar flows as well as an incredible beat that switches up half way and goes crazy.
Fly Anakin proves himself to be one of the best rappers right now, and the Mutant Academy fam keep putting out crazy music. You can listen to Fly Anakin and Ohbliv’s new collaborative album Backyard Boogie below via Spotify, and make sure you support the music in any way you can.
