It goes without saying that this tape is dope. Pete Rock, easily one of the greatest producers in hip-hop history is back with a new instrumental album titled Lost Sessions. With his trademark sampling, drum programming and soulful vibes, this is a tape you cannot miss, simply because of it’s undeniable quality. It’s a good reminder of what raw, authentic hip-hop sounds like, which is also a reminder as to why he holds the genre to such a high standard (in reference to a recent Instagram post, where he criticised current artists for not respecting the genre and making mediocre music).
And though I disagree with the negativity the older generation have around young artists who are trying to make it in the genre for themselves, I see why nothing more that excellence should be standard for artists to respect and abide by. Pete Rock embodies that strength and excellence to the highest of standards.
Listen to Lost Sessions below via Bandcamp, and do not hesitate for a second and just buy the album.
