Music: eu-IV – Supernova

eu-IV (pronounced ‘you four’) is a gifted producer hailing out of Maryland, Baltimore. With some fantastic projects under his belt such as Close Your Eyes EP which came out in 2016 via Flow Fi Recordings or Pearl LP, which came out the same year via Turbo Tape Recordings, he is a respected hip-hop producer who has been making waves for some time.

Supernova is his latest creation – a dive into sample-based production, which is accompanied by heavy drums and neat percussion. Some highlights include the soulful cut ‘thefeelings,’ the Fantastic Planet vibes of ‘intelligence,’ where he also samples a Neil DeGrasse Tyson speech about that topic, and the two closing tracks ‘theblackhole’ and ‘theafterlife.’ It’s clear that this album is meant to tell a sonic story, and funnily enough the Bandcamp description resembles the caterpillar poem by Kendrick Lamar in To Pimp A Butterfly. It says the following:

A black star journeyed through space in search of its purpose. The star battled stress, depression, and misunderstandings. Each difficulty led the star to deeper and darker layers of the universe. Overloaded with the pains of life, the star began to fold into itself. With no visible signs of light, the only thing it could do was retract. Burdened by the weight of its elements, the star explodes.

So with that in mind, you can travel through a spiritual and thought-provoking journey through music and life with this project, and it’s a powerful one at that as well.
